Construction crews were working hard on both the south and north side of the building site last week. On the north side of the site, crews installed conduits to protect utility wires from groundwater or anything else that could negatively impact their effectiveness. The road on the opposite side of the site was closed and trenched in preparation for relocating utilities to support installation of production piles.
Auger cast piles and pile caps were installed throughout the south side of the site. Auger cast piles are long concrete columns used to support the foundation – they help ensure the weight of the foundation is evenly distributed to prevent the building from settling. Pile caps sit on top of the piles that prevent the columns from being damaged by the machines that drive them into the ground.
