Kentucky’s commitment to education over the past 20 years has led to major strides in teacher training and pay as well as student achievement. The Lexington and Georgetown areas are no exception. More than 40% of Lexington residents hold at least a bachelor’s degree, ranking the city 14th nationally among cities with a population of 250,000 or more.

Fayette County Public Schools (serving Lexington) is composed of 35 elementary schools, 12 middle schools, five high schools, three technical centers and 11 other academic or alternative programs. Students consistently score above state and national averages on college entrance exams, and the majority of high school graduates in Fayette County attend college.

Scott County Public Schools (serving Georgetown) has eight elementary schools, three middle schools and one high school that include programs for easing the transition to high school and an extended campus that integrates career disciplines.

Enrollment in Advanced Placement classes in Scott County has doubled to more than 1,100 in the past four years. Students can choose from 19 different AP course offerings.

Higher Education
